Telluride Film Festival – ‘Hostiles’ and ‘Lady Bird’

The first still from ‘Hostiles’ featuring Timothée has been released (even though he’s quite blurred) and you can see that in the gallery. ‘Lady Bird’ was also screened at Telluride yesterday and you can read a short snippet about Timothée below and the full review over at IndieWire.

In the meantime, Lady Bird’s enduring the more pressing challenges of amateur high school plays and ramshackle romances, pivoting between ill-advised romances with the good-natured Danny (Lucas Hedges) and chic rocker Kyle (Timothée Chalamet, a world apart from the gay teen in “Call Me By Your Name”).

More ‘Call Me By Your Name’ and ‘Lady Bird’

EW has released a new ‘Lady Bird’ set image as part of it’s 18 movies to look out for at TIFF segment. You can see that in the gallery along with another still and a few promo shoot images from ‘Call Me By Your Name’.

Idie darling Greta Gerwig has codirected with Joe Swanberg (Nights and Weekends) and collaborated on screenplays with Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha and Mistress America). Now she takes a solo spin (wonderfully, according to early chatter) behind the camera in this film starring Saoirse Ronan as a student who wants to shake her small town for New York City. Laurie Metcalf and Tracey Letts costar as Ronan’s parents.

New York Times article + more ‘Call Me By Your Name’ stills

Timothée gave a short interview to The New York Times accompanied by gorgeous new photoshoot images which you can see in the gallery in HQ. Sony Pictures Classics has also released new ‘Call Me By Your Name’ stills which you can also see in the gallery.

New Yorker Timothée Chalamet found his first major role not in an action movie or a comedy, but in something more nuanced — Luca Guadagnino’s ‘‘Call Me by Your Name,’’ in theaters this fall. ‘‘There were a number of things that appealed to me about the part,’’ the 21-year-old actor says of Elio, a precocious high schooler summering with his parents — and a visiting graduate student, a friend of his father’s — in their family seat in northern Italy. ‘‘One was its complexity; it’s rare to find a young character who has such a fierce inner struggle raging.’’

More ‘Call Me By Your Name’

EW has released a new HQ ‘Call Me By Your Name’ still, which you can see in the gallery along with an LQ one from Empire UK and a new-ish set image.

“[For Hammer and Chalamet], there was a mutual craving to spend time together…. Their chemistry happened quite naturally and immediately,” Guadagnino says. Adds Hammer, “I can’t think of another movie where two men are so openly and honestly with each other. We made a movie that’s so tender and enjoyable, it can bridge gaps.”

New interview for W Magazine

W Magazine published a new interview with Timothée, Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg about ‘Call Me By Your Name’. You can read that here or some excerpts below. I have also added the two images from the interview to the gallery in higher quality than they are on the website.

In the TV show Homeland, Chalamet stole practically every scene he was in, and in Call Me by Your Name he is electrifying. His mix of raw awkwardness and puppy-like enthusiasm should be recognizable to anyone who has felt a deep longing that they didn’t totally understand.

“I first met with Luca when I was 17,” Chalamet, who is now 21, told me at the photo shoot for W. He was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt. “We had lunch, and Call Me by Your Name seemed far away from being real. It seemed unlikely that I would be the lead of the movie, or that the movie would happen at all. What I did know is that if the movie did manage to happen, Luca would have his fingerprints on every shot of the film. His superpower is his sensuality—his ability to make everything feel romantic.”

‘Call Me By Your Name’, ‘Hostiles’ at TIFF

According to Deadline, both ‘Call Me By Your Name’ and ‘Hostiles’ are going to be in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto Film Festival in September. The schedule will be announced on August 22. From the official TIFF website:

Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, Jesse Plemons, Wes Studi, and Adam Beach star in this 19th-century western drama from director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass), about an Army captain who agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief back to his tribal lands.

The latest from Italian auteur Luca Guadagnino ( I Am Love, A Bigger Splash) explores the tender, tentative relationship that blooms over the course of one summer between a 17-year-old boy on the cusp of adulthood (Timothée Chalamet) and his father’s research assistant (Armie Hammer).
